Design thinking is a process

A METHOD TO SOLVE PROBLEMS

DESIGN THINKING

The use of  design methodology

As architects and designers, we have a comprehensive and overall approach to challenges and focus on wholeness.
This competence we use to formulate irrational values and complex processes.
Good design provides a better user experience. Through service design we can improve important social tasks and services.

USER-FRIENDLY DESIGN
The Scandinavian design tradition is based on people and usability. Accumulated knowledge has broadened the concept of design and new terminologies have emerged: User-centered design, service design, design of services, process design, co-creation, nudging, etc.

This section describes how designduo works with concepts and methods.

DESIGN COOPERATION

Good design is created in a close collaboration between company and designers. All businesses are different, and although the assignment might be the same, there is a big difference to develop e.g. a chair in cooperation with IKEA or VITRA.

DESIGN BEFORE THE DESIGN | Prior to the design project, we draw up a design brief and project description, involving important DNA and values and exploit important know-how within the company. Together we work with the overarching goal and vision for where your company is going.

TEAMWORK FOR 360° DESIGN SOLUTIONS
We work in teams that think across your organization. Different perspectives ensure a 360 ° perspective on the new product or service. Design Methodology and process helps to break down silo mentality and sends all the resources invested in the same direction.
This ensures clear messages, powerful solutions, and unique user experiences.

TAILORMADE DESIGN PROCESSES
We match the process and the team to the individual client and project.
Our industrial design projects are based on the STATE |GATE process.
Our graphic and digital design projects have a more AGILE approach

SKILLS THROUGH DESIGN | DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AT EGE TÆPPER

“The design process consisted of a number of clarifying workshops involving employees from all departments of the internal value chain,” says Peter Albek, Design and Logistics Manager, Egetæpper. He continues: “At the workshops were discussed relevant procedures and methods as well as improvement possibilities, etc. Subsequently the designers have come up with suggestions for solving the individual issues. Including many solutions that went beyond what the company had expected from the designers. It certainly has added value to us and has been directly useful both in the short and long term.”

USER CENTERED DESIGN

HUMAN FACTORS
Knowledge of users is decisive to be able to work focused with product development. Analysing, researching and discovering how the users live and work and what they dream of is indispensable.

The Function series is based on close co-operation with Vestfrost. We have made detailed studies of user patterns and needs and have given this insight a lot of thought and work. So much in fact, that we are certain that if you haven’t thought of it, we have.
FOCUS | on functional qualities, flexibility, choice of materials and easy cleaning – in mindset, form and function designed to be a perfect household appliance for daily use.

DESIGN FOR ALL
Together with Melin Medical we have developed a payment service that focuses on general practitioners and the interaction between patient and healthcare professionals.

SERVICE DESIGN | SATISFIED USERS & GOOD BUSINESS
Today, more than 75 % of Norway’s medical offices and emergency services enjoy a simpler life thanks to Melin Medicals services. The solutions allow patients to take responsibility for the administration of their own accounts in a simple and intuitive way. In Norway alone, the systems handle approximately 50.000 patients every day and more than 12 million patients a year.

SERVICE DESIGN

Design is a process, a method to solve problems. Our focus on wholeness is a skill we can use to frame irrational values and complexprocesses.

A PROCESS TO IMPROVE THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT IN HEALTHCARE
Designduo has been part of a service design project conducted by Danish Business Authority.
The outcome was a Guideline Catalogue, co-created in cooperation with Aalborg University, interior designer Mette Milling, and The North Denmark Region.
The Guideline Catalogue includes a systematic process that ensures that the overall visions will manifest in the physical environment. Design perspectives help improve and boost future healthcare services towards citizens and to ensure resources being used as efficiently as possible. In addition, it makes general practice an attractive workplace and increases productivity without losing the care and proximity to the citizens.

PUBLIC

In Denmarkwe have a proud tradition of excellence in the public domain and a high level of service. As architects, we have a special ability to incorporate a product in the intended environment.

Public furniture adds atmosphere and architectural style to the space. Furniture and products are conceived in a broader context enabling them to interact with the surroundings over a long period of time. Public furnishing reflects local culture, history, and tradition.

SEMI-PUBLIC
Many of our clients work in a semi-public space with the task of meeting public demands as well as issues related to the feeling of home.

SUSTAINABILITY

LEAN & GREEN
When developing products for industrial companies, we help to find new solutions to future problems. It is our experience that lean and green often go hand in hand when the design process addresses possible solutions regarding structures, materials, production processes and waste minimisation.

DESIGN | LIFESPAN | SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is today an embedded dimension in product design.
A long lifespan has a tremendous impact on that products environmental footprint.

NUDGING by DESIGN

A GENTLE PUSH IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
As a more indirect benefit, design can provide intended behaviour change.
One example is designing a washing program so that the least resource intensive programs are easiest to access.

APPEAL RATHER THAN ACCUSING FINGERS
Condom packing; Enormous resources have been used for information campaigns while only little attention has been paid to the product. It is important, to give an impression of quality and to make the condom an attractive product by giving it new positive values approaching irrational aspects.
